A LITTLE LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

Arrive with
time to spare.

Getting to your door

Ask your host for the meeting point, parking and the final walk with luggage. The old lanes are narrow, so a map pin alone may not describe the easiest approach.

Stairs, terraces and your group

Check the sleeping layout and access with the host, especially for young children or anyone who needs step-free access. Traditional houses often have several levels.

Staying outside summer

Confirm heating, hot water and check-in arrangements for your dates. Ask which nearby places are open during your visit.

A THREAD IN KALAMOTI’S STORY

Sleep inside a changing village

Look at the doors and windows on the way to your accommodation. A stay becomes richer when you can recognise the different periods in the street around you.

The historical connection

The 1881 earthquake and subsequent rebuilding changed Kalamoti. Chios’s official guide identifies later influences from Chios Town and Kampos in doors and windows. Look at the village as a succession of building periods: the medieval layout survives alongside later choices, repairs and additions.
